Wallpaper is the fastest way to put pattern on a wall and the easiest material to under-order. Rolls are sold by length, but you hang full-height drops, so the usable number of drops per roll depends on your wall height and the pattern repeat — not on the wall's square footage. A roll that theoretically covers five square metres may yield only two usable drops once a large repeat forces every drop to start at the same point in the pattern.
Order everything at once, from one batch. Colour varies between print batches enough to be visible on adjacent drops, and a roll bought three weeks later frequently will not match. Buy the extra roll now rather than the matching problem later.

Mistakes to avoid
- Ordering by wall area instead of by full-height drops, which ignores the pattern repeat entirely.
- Buying rolls from more than one batch, so adjacent drops are visibly different in colour.
- Hanging on a wall that has not been sized or sealed, which causes the paper to lift at the seams.
- Subtracting doors and windows from the roll count, when in practice you still cut full drops around them.
